What permission does the Android app need?

For Android 10 and up, the app requires the following permissions. You can assign permission by going to Settings -> Apps -> FollowMee -> Permissions.
  • Location: Allow all the time
  • Physical activity

The required location permission is "allow all the time". Changing to "allow only while using the app" will stop the app from tracking in the background.

The app requires physical activity permission so that it knows if the device is stationary or moving. When the device is stationary, the app goes to sleep to preserve battery. When it is moving, the app wakes up to track.

For Android 11 or newer, the following option "Remove permissions if app isn't used" must be turned off. This ensures that this app can continue to track in the background.

For Android 6 to 9, the app requires the following permissions.
  • Location: required
  • Phone (read phone state): optional

Permission to read phone state is optional. This permission enables the app to read the device IMEI for identification purpose. This will ensure the server to restore your device if you reinstall the app. The app will still function fully even if you don't grant this permission.
